Phare Ponleu Selpak – Battambang’s Beacon of Creativity

A small art school was first created by volunteers to help children who had suffered from war heal through art. From that small beginning, it grew into a multidisciplinary art school with a circus school, a music school, and social programs. Today, Phare Ponleu Selpak has become one of Cambodia’s most important art centers, giving young people opportunities to build their skills, livelihoods, and future through creativity.

The Administration is one of the most important parts of the institution. Although there is no detailed description on the official website, based on the context of this art school and non-profit organization, the Administration serves as the central hub for management and coordination of all activities. It oversees student registration, program organization, staff and teacher management, and communication with donors and partners. It is also the place where visitors can ask for information, book circus tickets, or enroll in courses. In short, the Administration ensures that the school runs smoothly and effectively, supporting both artistic and social programs.

This space may be part of the Art Shop or Exhibition Area within the Phare Ponleu Selpak campus. It is a place where visitors can buy t-shirts, scarves, books, and other handmade items to support the development of the arts at Phare Ponleu Selpak. By purchasing these products, visitors are not only supporting the school’s creative mission but also helping young artists and students earn income to sustain the space and continue their artistic journey.

This space serves as a children’s art house or a creative activity center, designed to spark imagination and emotional growth. The decorations—handmade by students—reflect their active participation and artistic development. The colorful environment helps children express themselves, feel calm, and build confidence. It’s also a place where visitors can directly experience the spirit of Cambodian creativity. This is a powerful example of how art can shape emotional well-being and education. Such spaces are part of what makes Phare Ponleu Selpak vibrant and deeply rooted in Khmer identity.

The Child Development Center at Phare Ponleu Selpak is a place full of creativity and artistic expression. Colorful paper crafts and symbolic decorations show the participation of children and their growth in the arts. This center provides a safe and encouraging environment where children can express themselves, relax emotionally, and build confidence. Visitors can experience the art directly and see how creativity becomes a powerful tool for education, emotional healing, and community building.

A library is always an essential part of any educational center. At Phare Ponleu Selpak, the library is filled with a wide range of educational books, showing how art and reading can work together to support children’s emotional and professional development.
