A small art school was first created by volunteers to help children who had suffered from war heal through art. From that small beginning, it grew into a multidisciplinary art school with a circus school, a music school, and social programs.​  Today, Phare Ponleu Selpak has become one of Cambodia’s most important art centers, giving young people opportunities to build their skills, livelihoods, and future through creativity. The Lord's House was built in 1905 in French colonial style. It was the residence of Katathon Chhum Aphaiwong, the last Siamese governor of Battambang. In 1907, Battambang was returned to Cambodia under French colonial administration. The house was then used as the Provincial Hall and became a symbol of administrative power. Today, it has been transformed into the Battambang History Museum, displaying important artifacts and documents.
